Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, has accused the Opposition People’s National Party, PNP, of attempting whitewash the economic hardships it imposed on the Jamaican people.

He used the opening of his budget debate in the House of Representatives on Tuesday to set the record straight about the economic records of the two main political parties.

Dr. Holness says any objective assessment would show the JLP, particularly his administration, has been better stewards of the country.

It was clear the Prime Minister went to the Parliament to set the record straight on the history of Jamaica’s economic management since 1962.

At least as he saw it.

The Prime Minister accused Opposition Leader Mark Golding and his Finance Spokesman, Julian Robinson, of attempting to whitewash what he descried as the destructive past of the PNP.

Dr. Holness pointed to inflation as one of the most significant markers of the difference in the economic management record of the two political parties.

The Prime Minister added that his administration has introduced sound fiscal prudence, which must be protected against the vagaries of the PNP.

Pointing to unemployment, Dr. Holness further noted that Jamaicans today have a brighter future because of his administration’s responsible management of the economy.
