Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, says his government must continue to spread the word about its successes as it approaches the next general election.

The Prime Minister was speaking at a post-cabinet media briefing at his Devon Road office on Thursday morning.

Jamaica recorded its lowest poverty rate of 8.2 percent. in 2023.

That’s the lowest recorded figure since the country started keeping records in 1989.

Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, says the significant reduction in poverty validates the economic strategies of his administration.

At Thursday’s post-Cabinet media briefing, Prime Minister Holness was asked whether the historic low poverty numbers will translate into support for his administration in the next general election.

According to Prime Minister Holness, in theory, it should.

But he notes that some Jamaicans have been conditioned to not believe in the government’s achievements.

Prime Minister Holness says it is up to his administration to change this negative perception.

The Prime Minister says it is his government’s job to constantly remind Jamaicans about its efforts to counter those who seek to misinform the public.
