Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness says his government will work to deliver pay increases for public sector workers without jeopardizing the country’s economic stability.
The JLP leader gave the commitment following a breakdown in wage talks between the Jamaica Teachers’ Association, JTA, and the Ministry of Finance on Friday.
Dr. Holness was speaking at a party meeting in St Thomas over the weekend.
He took the opportunity to remind Labourites of past wage freezes under previous administrations, blaming them on unsustainable salary hikes.
It’s a mistake he says his government has successfully avoided, becoming the first administration to raise the wage bill without triggering a fiscal deficit.
