Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness has clarified that he wants to see the country have its own final local appellate court.
The clarification came at Thursday night’s leadership debate against Mark Golding.
Dr. Holness says ultimately it is a matter for the Jamaican people to decide.

The Prime Minister has been repeatedly called upon to declare his position on Jamaica’s final appellate court.
On Thursday, Dr. Holness finally made it clear he wants to see justice confined to local shores..
The Prime Minister is referencing the work of the Constitutional Reform Committee, and the subsequent Joint Select Committee reviewing the constitutional reform bill.
The Opposition has decided to boycott the committee’s sittings.
Despite the Opposition’s withdrawal, the select committee had continued its work up to the dissolution of parliament.
But there are questions about how the bill would move forward in the face of the opposition’s boycott.
The bill would require the vote of at least one opposition senator.
Dr. Holness slammed the PNP President’s behaviour, questioning their commitment to Jamaica’s democracy.
But, Mr. Golding maintained that a referendum is not required to sever Jamaica’s ties to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council and adopt the Caribbean Court of Justice.
