The increase in road fatalities has sparked fresh criticisms of the Opposition PNP that the government is not doing enough to address known crash hot spot areas across the country.
Spokesman on Transport, Mikael Phillips, expressed his disappointment during a virtual meeting put on by the Transport Operators Development Sustainable Services, TODSS, on Wednesday.
Two hundred and twenty-three people have died in fatal crashes since the start of the year.
That’s according to the latest data from the Island Traffic Authority.
It says fatalities have increased by four percent when compared to last year’s review period.
The latest incident occurred on Monday on the Queens Highway in Discovery Bay, St. Ann.
Three people were killed, while seven others, including two toddlers, were injured.
The injured persons remain hospitalised.
Mr. Phillips argues that without urgent action, the increase in road fatalities will continue.
