Opposition spokesperson on justice, Senator Donna Scott Mottley, is calling on the Electoral Commission of Jamaica, ECJ, to clarify its appointment of an individual to carry out the functions of the political ombudsman.
The revelation was made on Wednesday by justice minister, Delroy Chuck.
The minister says he was advised that someone was designated to the post and has been carrying out the functions since last year. However, no details have emerged from the ECJ on the appointment.
Senator Scott-Mottley says she finds the announcement troubling.
The functions of the political ombudsman were transferred to the ECJ last February.
However, with general elections approaching, questions have been raised about how the electoral oversight body will manage the functions of the ombudsman.
Senator Scott-Mottley says the commission must publish details on how the public can effectively engage with the ombudsman.
