People’s National Party, PNP, caretaker for North Central St. Andrew, Christopher Henry, says he’s confident about his chances of taking home the seat in the next general elections.
He was speaking on Nationwide at Five on Tuesday.
North Central St. Andrew has been a Jamaica Labour Party, JLP, stronghold since sitting member of parliament, Karl Samuda, won the seat 45 years ago.
But there’s uncertainty about who will succeed him. The JLP’s caretaker in the seat remains unsettled ahead of the next general elections.
State minister of tourism, Senator Delano Seiveright and attorney Christian Tavares-Finson, were considered the party’s two aspirants. However, in a turn of events on Tuesday, Seiveright suspended his campaign, which he launched in April.
At the time, he stated that he had the full support of Samuda as well as JLP councillors Lee Clarke and Susan Senior. But on Tuesday, Seiveright said his withdrawal will allow the party to regroup and better focus its efforts on holding on to the constituency.
Reacting to the news, Mr. Henry questioned the JLP’s lengthy delay in selecting a caretaker.
