“He’s just an accountant”
That’s the reaction from opposition leader, Mark Golding, to news of the appointment of Dennis Chung as chief technical director of the Financial Investigations Division, FID.
Speaking to comrades in Central Kingston on Wednesday, the People’s National Party, PNP, president said Chung lacks experience.
In announcing Chung’s appointment on Wednesday, the finance ministry noted his 35 years of experience in accounting and financial management, having served in both the public and private sectors.
Golding is calling on civil society, the church and members of the private sector to resist the appointment of Dennis Chung at the helm of the FID.

Meanwhile, the PNP have called a midday press conference to address the appointment of Dennis Chung as the new chief of the FID.
In a press conference advisory earlier on Thursday, the PNP noted what it is describing as the troubling conflict of interest and apparent bias surrounding the appointment of Chung.
The PNP says it plans to outline concerns regarding the implications for transparency, good governance and public trust.
The statement lists PNP president, Mark Golding, party general secretary, Dr Dayton Campbell, spokesperson on finance and the public sector, Julian Robinson, and spokesperson on national security, Senator Peter Bunting as the speakers.
