The opposition People’s National Party, PNP, is commending police commissioner, Dr. Kevin Blake, and the Jamaica Constabulary Force, JCF, for the 35 per cent reduction in murders for the first quarter of the year.
In a statement to the media late Monday evening, Opposition Spokesman on Citizen Security, Senator Peter Bunting, says the JCF has been more effective without relying on states of public emergency, SOEs.
The opposition has rejected the routine use of the enhanced security measure as a crime fighting tool.
Senator Bunting claims the measure led to 2,000 more murders than the levels maintained under the previous PNP administration.
Meanwhile, Senator Bunting says the PNP is sceptical of the Jamaica Labour Party administration’s support of social interventions as part of crime fighting mix.
