PNP Continues to Claim Portmore Victory Despite Court Lifting Injunction

4 months ago 34

Opposition leader, Mark Golding, is declaring victory following the decision by the Supreme Court to lift the temporary injunction which blocked the government from proceeding with the push to make Portmore the 15th parish.

The court’s ruling was handed down last Friday.

Golding responded to the development on Sunday while speaking at the candidate presentation meeting for Stacey Knight in North East St Andrew.

The People’s National Party, PNP, had filed the lawsuit earlier this month, as part of its attempt to prevent the government from proceeding with efforts to make Portmore the newest parish.

But the governing Jamaica Labour Party and the attorney general are claiming the court’s ruling last Friday as a victory for the government.

But Golding disagrees. He says the court has acted to uphold respect for the constitution.

Meanwhile the mayor of Spanish Town, Norman Scott, says when all is said and done, the PNP has won the first round of its court battle with the government over Portmore’s status.

Mayor Scott has described the Holness administration as a minority government.
