Councillor for the Bellefield Division in Central Manchester, the PNP’s Mario Mitchell, is unrepentant about a series of derogatory comments he posted online.
The comments were in response to questions about a recently paved stretch of road in his division.
In a series of replies to tweets from his account, Mitchell defended the work done on the Bush Mount Road in Banana Ground.
We caution our listeners and viewers that you may find some of the comments offensive.
Mahiri Stewart reports.
At 9:14 Saturday night, Mitchell’s account posted a photo of a freshly paved roadway with the caption “New road #14 since elected.”
Several users replied to the post, asking about the lack of drains and sidewalks, the apparent thinness of the asphalt, and the unsealed edges.
One user asked, “So where are the drains?”
With laughing emojis, the account replied, “Check your mom, like her they run deep and wide and to everyone.”
Another user commented, “Two weeks and all that gone. Very poorly done,” to which the account replied, “Like your roof.”
To the question, “Why is the asphalt so thin?” Mitchell’s account posted, “Go buy tape and take it [up] with Jesus.”
Yet another user posted: “Typical comrade chaka chaka slapdash work.” The response? “Like ur mom bed. I guess you know what to look for and expect”.
At 8:50 Sunday morning, Mitchell’s account posted another photo of the paved road, this time juxtaposed against one taken before the work was done.
The caption read, “Just because the corruption bunch JLP having a meltdown imma post twice.” It was followed by a laughing with tears emoji.
Some users took the councillor to task over his comments.
One said, “This comment is very disgraceful and you’re a family man and representative of the people?”
Another said, “Don’t forget that it’s our tax money that pays you. As an elected official your utterances are nothing short of disgraceful.”
But Mitchell appears unfazed.
At 10:42 Monday morning, his account displayed a new post, “Run in on me and think I’m gonna stay quiet. U have next guess coming. My freedom of speech right will ensure you get a healthy and hearty SYM.”
For those of you who don’t know, SYM is the shortened form of a three-word slur that ends with “mother.”
Mitchell is in his third term as councillor, having first won and secured the division for the PNP in 2016.
His profile on X describes him as a father, family man and philanthropist.
Several calls to Mitchell’s phone on Monday went unanswered.
