Opposition Leader, Mark Golding, says a future PNP government will bring forward legislation to impeach parliamentarians and public officials.
He says the JLP government has been dragging its feet on a motion he tabled in 2021.
Golding was addressing comrades at a party meeting in Westmoreland over the weekend.
As part of his campaign in 2016, Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness, promised to table impeachment legislation within his first 1-hundred days in office.
It’s a promise that has not been kept.
Golding brought it to the fore after the JLP’s George Wright was embroiled in an alleged physical assault controversy.
The impeachment proposal was rejected by the Constitutional Reform Committee.
It noted the difficulty for someone so charged to receive a fair and impartial hearing due to the partisan nature of Jamaican politics.
Golding says in addition to impeachment, changes will also be made to the Integrity Commission’s gag clause.
