Several members of the Jamaica Labour Party and the People’s National Party were nominated today as the country gets into high gear for the September 3 general election.
PNP President Mark Golding says while victory is nigh, they must not become complacent about the result of the general election.

He was addressing party supporters on Penrith Road in Kingston, following his nomination to contest the general election in South St. Andrew.
Meanwhile, the PNP’s candidate in West Central St. Andrew, Paul Buchanan arrived at the nomination centre at the Waltham Park New Testament Church shortly after 11-this morning, flanked by jubilant supporters.
Buchanan is up against Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness who has won the seat six straight times since 1997.

Buchanan was escorted into the centre by former PNP candidate, Patrick Roberts where he paid the nomination fee with three 5-thousand dollar bills.
Former PNP MP in North East Manchester, Calvin Lyn says he came out of retirement to help the party regain the seat at the next general election.
Lyn spoke with our news centre in Central Manchester during Nomination Day activities on Monday morning.
Lyn cited a lack of opportunities for young people across both of the Manchester seats, Central and North East led by the JLP.

Floyd Green has been formally nominated as the JLP’s candidate in South West St Elizabeth to contest the General Elections on September 3.
At about 10:45am, Green was nominated at the Black River Primary and Infant school.
Green, who walked from Black River Square, was flanked by hundred of JLP supporters with placards stating “fawud Eva, backwud neva”
He paid his nomination fee using three $5,000 dollar bank notes.
Shortly after he completed the nomination process, he spoke with the media.

His opponent, the PNP’s Dr Miranda Wellington is now being nominated.
The JLP’s Daryl Vaz says he is sure of victory in West Portland.
He was first elected as MP for the constituency in 2007.

Meanwhile JLP candidate in East Portland, Ann Marie Vaz, is also confident of victory come September 3.
Mrs. Vaz was nominated at 10:20am.
