The People’s National Party says it’s locked, loaded, and ready for the September 3 General Election.
General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell says the party has been mobilizing for the very date Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced on Sunday.
Nomination Day is set for August 18.
Dr. Campbell claims the PNP was first to call the elections.
Dr. Campbell says the Prime Minister waited until the last minute because he was unsure of the JLP’s prospects.
He adds that with the end of the Prime Minister’s term approaching, the announcement had become unavoidable.
Campbell says he’s confident the PNP is fully organized and ready to mount a challenge for Jamaica House.

He was speaking on Sunday at a PNP gathering at the party’s Old Hope Road headquarters.
Meanwhile, PNP supporters have welcomed the election date, saying they’re eager for the party to take the reins of government.

The PNP intends to host a rally in Cross Roads on Saturday.
The rally had been postponed from its originally planned date on Sunday.
And, a senior member of the Jamaica Labour Party’s Communication Task Force, Senator Marlon Morgan, says with the election date now set, the party is fully mobilised for the election campaign.
He’s confident the JLP will secure victory.
