Opposition Leader Mark Golding says the tentative total cost of the programmes he announced in the budget debate presentations made by the People’s National Party, PNP, is $23 billion annually.
Mr. Golding made the revelation during a PNP media briefing at the residence of the Leader of Opposition on East Kings House Road in St. Andrew on Wednesday.
He says funding for the programmes announced would come from a readjustment of the the existing $360 billion of discretionary expenditure in Jamaica’s $1.27 trillion national budget.
He also cites projected revenue increases of $242 billion of the next four years as another source of funding.
This figure comes a day after the opposition leader sought to clarify the proposals put forward by his party in the budget debates during its closing in the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
The opposition came under scrutiny for the lack of figures presented by Mr. Golding and Opposition Spokesman on Finance Julian Robinson during the debate.
