The People’s National Party, PNP, is promising to establish a $1 billion fund aimed at uplifting the country’s disabled community.
PNP President Mark Golding made the pledge at a forum hosted in St. Andrew on Thursday.
Gianni Willie has the details.
The PNP gathered members of the disabled community on Thursday to discuss their issues and concerns.
Among the proposals being put forward is a dedicated fund to address specific issues facing the community.
Mark Golding says the fund can be used to address a wide range of issues.
Golding has also vowed to increase funding to the Jamaica Council for Persons with Disabilities.
The PNP says it would also increase resources to the Disabilities Rights Tribunal.
The tribunal is charged with settling complaints of discrimination and breaches of the Disabilities Act, 2014.
Golding says closer attention will be paid to the procurement and building process to ensure greater inclusion and accessibility.
The Opposition is also promising an audit of schools and government facilities to determine their level of accessibility and create a plan of action on how to upgrade improper situations.
