PNP Says Priority Proposals in Manifesto to Cost 10% of Discretionary Budget

Opposition Spokesman on Education, Damion Crawford, says the priority proposals outlined in the People’s National Party’s manifesto will cost roughly 10 percent of the discretionary budget.

He estimates that figure to be under $36 billion.

The PNP’s manifesto, titled ‘Mission Jamaica Love, A People’s Pledge to Country’, was launched on Tuesday at the Jamaica Pegasus in New Kingston.

It details ten key pillars the PNP considers vital to improving the lives of all Jamaicans.

These include land, housing, youth opportunities, violence prevention, and environmental resilience.

The party is also pledging that every young person will have access to training, entrepreneurship, or tertiary education opportunities by the age of 18.

Crawford says the funding of the budget does not include the $11.4 billion annual drawdown from the National Housing Trust.

He says it will come from taxes and other sources of revenue.
