PNP Chairman, Dr. Angela Brown-Burke, has threatened legal action over what she says is the government’s unauthorised decision to call a by-election in the Seivwright Gardens division without the approval of the Mayor of the KSAMC, Andrew Swaby.
Seivwright Gardens lies within the West Central St Andrew Constituency represented by Prime Minister, Dr. Andrew Holness.
But speaking to comrades at a party meeting in Cross Roads, St Andrew over the weekend, Dr. Brown Burke insisted that no election can be held in the division until Mayor Swaby gives the nod.
Seivwright Gardens is one of four divisions across the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation, which is set have a by-election on September 3.
The others are Chancery Hall, Olympic Gardens and Denham Town.
All four divisions went to JLP candidates in last February’s local government elections.
But the JLP’s Delroy Williams, who secured the Seivwright Gardens division, has turned to parliamentary service.
He’s now the prospective candidate for Central Clarendon, replacing Mike Henry, who’s not seeking re-election.
But it’s understood Mayor Swaby has yet to receive a formal letter of resignation from Williams as Councillor.
Dr. Brown-Burke says the PNP is prepared to take the legal route if the by-election proceeds.
