The People’s National Party, PNP, is promising to outlaw hair discrimination in schools if it forms the next government.

That’s among a raft of proposals put forward under their Mission Jamaica Love Manifesto presented on Tuesday.

The manifesto includes what the PNP says is a ten-point pillar to develop the country.

Hair discrimination has been a vexed issue in Jamaican schools, with several students being locked out and sent home for what’s deemed improper hairstyles.

The matter went all the way to the Court of Appeal in the case of a Rastafarian student who was denied admission to Kensington Primary.

The PNP says if it comes to government, it will put an end to the ongoing discrimination.

Opposition Spokesman on Justice, Donna Scott Mottley says this involves, embracing many cultural norms as part of the nations legal fabric.

In addition to banning hair discrimination, the PNP is also promising to advance reforms that will legally recognise Rastafari and the treaty rights of Maroons.

The PNP is also promising to expand the Senate to to include the Diaspora, Persons with Disabilities, and the Rastafari and Maroon communities.

Senator Scott Mottley says a PNP government would also improve beach access and further reform the country’s ganja laws.
