Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr. Alfred Dawes, is calling on the government to address what he says are deteriorating conditions at the Annotto Bay Hospital in St. Mary.
Dr. Dawes, along with PNP Caretaker for South East St. Mary, Christopher Brown, and Councillor for the Bellefield Division, Levan Freeman, toured the hospital on Monday.
Dr. Dawes says he met with Senior Medical Officer at the facility, Dr. Glenton Strachan, who shared that several key surgical positions remain vacant.
Dr. Strachan reportedly highlighted that the staff shortage has caused significant delays in essential procedures, leaving many patients on extended waiting lists.
Dr. Dawes says among the problems at the facility are overcrowded wards, outdated and frequently malfunctioning equipment and an operating theatre that is often out of service.
