PNP Wants Explanation for Retraction of Statement Explaining Chung’s FID Appointment

The opposition People’s National Party, PNP, is demanding answers from the finance ministry after it retracted a statement concerning the process by which Dennis Chung was selected as chief technical director of the Financial Investigations Division, FID.

Opposition Senator, Peter Bunting, is questioning why the statement was withdrawn without explanation.

The ministry’s statement had sought to clarify the revision of the job description for the top job at the FID.

Initially, law enforcement experience was a pre-requisite for the post. But information minister, Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, said the interview panel removed the requirement after former deputy police commissioner, Fitz Bailey, declined the offer.

Chung was subsequently interviewed and appointed to the post.

According to Bunting, other applicants with law enforcement experience were denied the top job.
