PNP Welcomes Interim Injunction Blocking Portmore Parish Push

The Opposition People’s National Party has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to grant an interim injunction blocking the government’s move to declare Portmore Jamaica’s 15th parish.

Chief Justice Bryan Sykes granted the injunction On Thursday. The injunction will remain in force until the parties return to court on March 28.

Member of parliament, MP, for South St. Catherine, Fitz Jackson, says the move protects the will of the residents.

MP Jackson maintains that Portmore’s unique local governance structure should be preserved.

Jackson and mayor of Portmore, Leon Thomas, are named as claimants in the lawsuit. The attorney general, Dr. Derrick McKoy, and local government minister, Desmond McKenzie, are the respondents.
