THE POCKET Rocket Foundation is now accepting applications for its 2025–2026 scholarship programme, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Jamaican student-athletes.

It is open to high school athletes from second through to sixth form who excel both in academics and sports. The scholarship reflects the foundation’s mission to empower youth through education and athletic achievement.

Dr Jermaine McCalpin, executive director of the foundation, said the scholarship is more than just financial aid. It represents a long-term investment in the potential of young people.

“This scholarship is one of the ways we continue the work the foundation was built to do,” he said.

“Each year, we see how critical it is to provide consistent support for student-athletes. It’s not just about school fees. It’s about affirming their dedication, in the classroom and in competition.”

Applications opened on July 1 and will close on August 15. Students must apply online at www.pocketrocketfoundation.org.

The scholarship covers essential education-related expenses, including tuition, lunch, books, and transportation. Awards are renewable each academic year through to graduation, provided students meet the foundation’s academic, behavioural, and athletic standards.

To date, 93 scholarships have been awarded to student-athletes competing in 12 disciplines from 31 high schools across Jamaica.

Founder Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce remains closely involved in the programme’s growth and success.

“It’s inspiring to see how far our scholars go on the field, in the classroom, and in life,” she said. “The journey continues, and I’m proud the foundation can still play a part in it.”
