Police Charge 16-Year-Old in Lords Bank Robbery Case

Police in the Belize District have formally charged a 16-year-old minor in connection with a robbery in the Ladyville area last week. Police say they responded to reports of a robbery shortly after one o’clock on Wednesday December 10 at Old Well Road in Lords Bank village. Investigators report that a contractor working in the area alerted officers after witnessing several men assaulting another individual before entering a nearby unfinished building and robbing workers of personal items. Police say the workers were forced to hand over two cellular phones, a grey Samsung valued at three hundred and ninety-five dollars, and a blue Motorola of unknown value. Officers also report that a sling bag belonging to the contractor was taken, containing a food container and a Total-brand grinder valued at two hundred and twenty-six dollars. As the suspects fled into nearby bushes, the contractor attempted to record them on his phone, at which point one of the men allegedly fired a shot in his direction. No injuries were reported. Following a search of the area, police detained a 16-year-old male from Lords Bank. Police have since confirmed that the teenager has been formally charged. Assistant Superintendent of Police Stacey Smith provided further details during yesterday’s police press briefing.
