Police Constable Charged With Harm in Alleged Domestic Assault

A police constable has been charged with harm following an alleged domestic assault in Lord’s Bank. Twenty-year-old Marvin Card pleaded not guilty and was released on bail of three thousand dollars, plus one surety in the same amount.  According to the complaint, Card entered the apartment of his former common-law partner, on the night of September 18. She alleges that he slapped her, struck her with a broom, dragged her by the hair and hit her in the face with a cast-iron frying pan. Police say a doctor classified her injuries as harm. These are allegations that Card has disputed, and indicated to the court that the complainant wanted to withdraw the charge. The Chief Magistrate did not dismiss the case at that hearing and directed that the victim be given the opportunity to seek protection through the Family Court. An interim protection order has since been granted, with that matter set for September 30.  As conditions of his bail, Card must stay at least one hundred feet away from Robinson and report to the Precinct Four Police Station each Wednesday. His criminal case is scheduled to return to court on November 9.
