A police officer attached to the Special Patrol Unit is tonight hospitalized following the negligent discharge of a service firearm this morning outside Precinct One in Belize City. Investigations indicate that 33-year-old Police Constable Inebesi Zuniga, accidentally discharged his service weapon while inside a white Ford Ranger police mobile assigned to SPU. The weapon reportedly fired as Zuniga was in the process of clearing and loading it, causing an injury to his left foot. Police say Zuniga attempted to clear and load the firearm when the accidental discharge occurred. Zuniga was immediately transported by SPU personnel to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition.
