Police Constable, 28-year-old Edwardo Abendigo Cus, died following a traffic accident on the Philip Goldson Highway last night. Police say that around 8:40 p.m., officers responded to a report of an accident at mile one and a half on the highway, in front of the Easy Inn Hotel. Upon arrival, they found a male individual lying motionless on the ground. BERT personnel who were already on the scene informed police that the man had succumbed to his injuries. According to ASP Stacy Smith, investigations revealed that the deceased was riding a Lifan motorcycle without a license plate, heading toward Belize City, when he reportedly lost control and collided.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “What the investigation has so far suggested is that Cus was traveling on his motorcycle to Belize City when he lost control and collided into a metal lamppost that is located on the median of the highway. PC Cus has been a serving member of the Belize Police Department for just over four years and the loss of Mr. Cus is certainly mourned by the Ministry as well as the department. Though he has only amassed four years of service by all indications he was a very dedicated and committed police officer.”
Cus was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was officially pronounced dead at 10:23 p.m.
