Police Week celebrations continue across Belize, with officers being recognized for their dedication, professionalism, and service to the nation. The annual observance, which began on Sunday, June 14, is being celebrated under the theme, “Honouring Our Call, Strengthening Our Community.” Throughout the week, police personnel have been participating in a series of community outreach activities, engagement programs, and events aimed at strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve. One of the major highlights of this year’s observance took place today at the National Police Training Academy in Belmopan, where the Belize Police Department hosted its annual Medal, Awards and Promotion Ceremony. The event recognized officers for exemplary service and outstanding performance, while also celebrating those who have earned promotions within the department’s ranks. Family members, colleagues, government officials, and invited guests were on hand to witness the occasion. Speaking following the ceremony, Commissioner of Police Dr. Richard Rosado reflected on the significance of the event, noting that the department had not held an awards ceremony since 2022 and emphasizing the importance of recognizing the hard work and sacrifices made by officers across the country.

Oscar Mira, Minister of Home Affairs: “Today is about the police officers who were out on the parade square. Many of those received awards, some for 10,15, 20 to 30 years of service, dedicated service to our country. Some promotions as well. As you know this is police week and we honor the police officers who have been going beyond what is the call of duty. Not an easy job to do and a very unforgiving job at that. So today we honor them and we thank them so very much for the service that they have provided to our country.”
Also addressing the gathering was Minister of Home Affairs and New Growth Industries, Oscar Mira, who congratulated the recipients and praised police officers for their commitment to protecting Belizeans and maintaining public safety. Mira noted that the awards represent more than individual achievements, highlighting the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by officers in the execution of their duties.

Dr. Richard Rosado, Commissioner of Police: “Well we’re in the middle of Police Week. This is one of our highlights today. We had the last medal and award ceremony in September of 2022 and I’m pleased to recognize our dedicated officers for their years of service, commitment and their excellence in service. So it’s truly a good feeling to be able to recognize them as the Commissioner of Police.”
Police Week activities are scheduled to continue throughout the remainder of the week and will culminate with a number of sporting and community events designed to foster camaraderie within the department and strengthen partnerships with the public. Officials say the annual observance serves as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of police officers.
