Police have detained two suspected thieves who targeted a Burrell Boom resident in a home invasion. ASP Stacy Smith told the media that the vehicle stolen has since been recovered but the men remain at large.

ASP Stacy Smith, Belize Police Department: “Police have recovered a vehicle and have detained two persons of interest in relation to an aggravated burglary which occurred at 3:30 am on Wednesday 14 October 2026. A resident of Burrell Boom Village visited the Burrell Boom substation and reported that whilst he was sleeping inside his residence he was awoken by some noise. Upon getting up to inquire he was accosted by a male person who assaulted him and he was restrained. He observed that there were three additional male persons inside his premises who proceed to ransack the residence before making off with an undisclosed amount of money, jewelry, cellphone and as well as a Toyota SUV. This information was communicated and just before midday on Thursday 16 October 2026 officers on patrol in Santa Familia observed the vehicle which was earlier communicated to them and a pursuit was initiated. During the course of the pursuit the male persons stopped and abandoned the vehicle. However that vehicle has since been processed with a view to look for prints in the hope of identifying who were those occupants. As I said, persons are in detention and one other person is being sought.”
