SWWTU president Michael Annisette. - POLICE have identified the murder victim of the December 12 shooting in Sangre Chiquito as Micah Annisette, one of the sons of trade union leader Michael Annisette.
Two other men injured in the attack were identified as Akiel King, 21, of Malabar, Arima and Sherwin Ross, 44, of North Manzanilla Road, Manzanilla.
They remain in hospital.
Around 3 pm, the car the men were in was shot at by two occupants of another car. The driver tried to escape by reversing, but crashed into a yard where the gunmen fired several more shots. One person managed to escape serious injury.
The getaway car was found abandoned at James Smart Village, Sangre Chiquito, shortly after the incident.
In a WhatsApp comment on December 13, the trade union leader confirmed the deceased was his relative.
He made only one comment with respect to the murder.
"Life is a mystery that the ordinary mind cannot understand. In this physical world, the acceptance of what is and what you have no control over is the source of understanding and peace of mind. Life goes on even after death."
In November 2018, another of Annisette's sons, Dwayne King, was wounded in a shooting incident along the Beetham Highway, Port of Spain.
Annisette then dismissed social media claims about his son having a criminal lifestyle.
“I have learned in this life that darkness could never conquer light, and in the end, the truth will always reveal itself. I have the utmost confidence that all the negativity and attempts to paint a picture to justify these actions will come to nought at the end of the day,” he said then.
