Police are tonight investigating a reported burglary at a construction site on Marine Parade in Belize City. Twenty-three-year-old Jorge Chan, a construction worker originally from San Martin in the St. Andrews area of Cayo District, reported to the Queen Street Police Station earlier today that he had been the victim of theft earlier this week. According to Chan, the incident occurred on Tuesday night at the Golden Bay construction site, where he is currently residing. He told police that he went to sleep around seven-thirty p.m. in his room on the second floor of the five-story building after securing the door. However, about an hour and a half later, he was awakened by his roommate, who was searching for missing items. Chan says he then checked his belongings and discovered that several items had been stolen, including a black Redmi A5 cellular phone, a green Jansport school bag, a brown wallet containing cash, multiple forms of identification, and assorted clothing. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at five hundred and seventy-five Belize dollars. Police have since recorded Chan’s statement and reviewed surveillance footage from the area, which they say has yielded useful information.
