Police Lay Second Murder Charge in Gabourel Killing

Police have formally arrested and charged a second suspect in connection with the murder of Mark Anthony Gabourel, which occurred on Wednesday, January 7.  On Tuesday, January 13, 29-year-old Shaylon Melvin Santos, a Belizean construction worker of Teakettle Village, Cayo District, was charged with the crime of Murder.  Gabourel was fatally injured during a violent incident last week, a case that sparked widespread public concern and prompted community support efforts for his surviving children. Police had previously detained and charged one other individual in relation to the killing, making Santos the second person to be charged in the ongoing investigation. Investigators have not disclosed details of Santos’ alleged role in the crime, and police say inquiries are continuing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding Gabourel’s death.  Santos is expected to be brought before the court, where he will be read the charge. Police have not indicated whether further arrests are anticipated at this time.
