A police officer was taken into custody on Friday under the Emergency Powers Regulations.
Police say around 4:45 pm on August 22, 2025, officers of the Special Investigations Unit served a Preventive Detention Order on the officer at the Barrackpore Police Station.
He was allowed to contact his attorney before being taken to a detention facility and handed over to prison authorities.
The detention came a day after an acting Assistant Superintendent of Prisons with more than 20 years’ service also was held under a Preventive Detention Order.
That officer, whose substantive post was Prison Supervisor II, was detained on Thursday night as part of an investigation into alleged illegal activity at the Maximum Security Prison in Arouca.
He was taken to the Eastern Correctional Rehabilitation Centre in Santa Rosa, where he remained up to yesterday.
