Sheem Aaron Williams, a police officer from Carapichaima, died in a crash along the Solomon Hochoy Highway on Saturday night.
Williams, 24, of Harry Goland Street, was riding his motorcycle north along the highway around 10.15 pm when he lost control and slammed into the barrier separating the north and southbound lanes near the T&TEC sub-station. The impact severed his right arm, and his body was flung onto the roadway, where several vehicles struck it. Williams died at the scene.
Williams, described as a dedicated policeman, was attached to the CID at the Cunupia Police Station. He would have celebrated his 25th birthday later this month.
His father said he “loved his job more than anything else and wanted to be a good policeman.”
Earlier that day, Williams had attended the funeral of the wife of one of his friends.
At the family home on Bay Road, Brickfield, Carapichaima, yesterday, distraught family members and neighbours were preparing for a wake.
Shevlin and his wife, Lisa Williams, consoled each other in disbelief and said their 19-year-old son was deeply affected by his brother’s death.
Williams’ godfather, Ramdeo Ganga, described the loss as tragic and said that he, too, had lost a son in a motorcycle accident three years ago.
