A police constable is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to four counts of unlawful sexual intercourse involving a girl who was 13 and 14 years old when the offences occurred. Twenty-nine-year-old Dexter Diego entered the guilty pleas before Justice Nigel Pilgrim in the High Court on Monday. His trial had been scheduled to begin that morning, but the matter ended in less than an hour after he admitted to all four charges. Diego was represented by attorney Hurl Hamilton. He has been remanded to prison and is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on September 8. Before determining the sentence, Justice Pilgrim ordered the preparation of a prison report, a Social Inquiry Report and a Victim Impact Statement. According to the agreed facts presented to the court, Diego was a family friend who became acquainted with the girl in 2022. They remained in regular contact over approximately ten months and developed a secret relationship without the knowledge of the child’s mother. The first offence happened sometime between December 31, 2022, and February 1, 2023, when the girl was 13. She had been babysitting children at a relative’s home when Diego arrived and later had sexual intercourse with her. The remaining offences occurred after the girl turned 14. The court heard that Diego visited her home on separate occasions between February and March 2023, including one occasion when he arrived wearing his police uniform. Diego pleaded guilty to one count arising from each of the four incidents outlined by the prosecution. He will remain behind bars until his sentencing hearing
