Police officers receive unprecedented Christmas gesture

For the first time in the history of the Belize Police Department, every worker across the department has received a Christmas food token, either a ham or a turkey, in what officials describe as an unprecedented gesture of appreciation for police personnel.  The initiative, rolled out ahead of the Christmas season, benefited not only active-duty officers and civilian staff, but also recently retired officers and those currently on leave, underscoring an inclusive approach to staff welfare.  Police Staff Officer ASP Stacy Smith welcomed the initiative, saying the gesture went a long way in boosting morale and showing appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices made by police personnel throughout the year.

Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “Whilst in fact it is very small police officers are very grateful persons. I think doing a job such as policing where you can never be truly compensated for it, it is an indication of an individual who is grateful for very little. So we are so thankful that on this occasion in this year through the assistance of the Commissioner of Police and the Minister we were able provide ham or turkey to all police officers in the department as well as the significant support staff. We were also able to extend that distribution to recently retired police officers as well as the family of fallen police officers that have maintained a connection with our welfare department. So we were so grateful that we were able to do that and the officers are very appreciative of it.”
