Police officers vote nationwide in Belize Police Association elections

Police officers across Belize cast ballots today in elections for the leadership of the Belize Police Association (BPA), with voting taking place at police formations countrywide.  Love News understands that 22 officers had put themselves on the ballot to vie for the seven available executive seats.  The elections will determine the executive body that will represent the interests of rank-and-file officers for the 2026–2027 term. Several slates are contesting the election, with candidates drawn from different ranks and formations, reflecting a cross-section of the Department. Voting is being conducted internally, in keeping with the Association’s constitution and electoral procedures.  Minister of Home Affairs Oscar Mira says the government respects the role of the Association and supports a transparent and orderly electoral process.

The Belize Police Association serves as the recognized body that advocates on behalf of officers on matters such as working conditions, welfare, discipline-related concerns, and dialogue with police leadership and the Ministry of Home Affairs.  According to established practice, the Association operates independently of police command structures, while maintaining cooperation with the Belize Police Department and government officials to promote professionalism, accountability, and improved service delivery.  Further speaking on the mandate of the association and the election process is Sergeant Claudius Cardinez who says 116 officers are eligible to vote from the Dangriga formation.
