Police Probe Multiple Crimes In Belize City Including Sexual Offense And Burglary

Police are investigating a series of separate incidents reported in Belize City on Monday, ranging from a case of unlawful sexual intercourse to theft and burglary.  In the first report, a mother visited the Crimes Investigation Branch, Precinct Two, shortly before eleven o’clock on Monday morning along with her thirteen-year-old daughter. She reported that a nineteen-year-old male, identified as Ashmar Rodriguez, allegedly had unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor on three separate occasions, once in August and twice in September of last year. Police have since recorded statements and processed the scene. Investigators say a medical examination is pending as the matter remains under active investigation.  In a separate incident, a twenty-four-year-old public relations officer reported that his vehicle was broken into sometime between Sunday night and early Monday morning. The complainant told police he had parked his 2018 Nissan Rogue SUV in front of his home on Louise Bevans Street, but upon returning the following morning, discovered it had been burglarized.  Stolen items include a Canon EOS camera with lens and flash, valued at six thousand dollars, along with electronic accessories, watches, a backpack, personal documents, and two thousand dollars in cash. The total value of the stolen items is estimated at just over eight thousand, nine hundred Belize dollars.  Police have since arrested 50-year-old Martha Ferrell of Arlington Drive for handling stolen goods.  Meanwhile, police are also looking into a burglary reported on Police Street on Monday evening. A twenty-nine-year-old barber told authorities that his elevated wooden home was broken into sometime between late Sunday morning and Monday evening. The culprit reportedly forced entry by prying open the door and made off with one thousand, eight hundred dollars in cash from a metal safe.  Scenes of Crime officers processed the area, and police say surveillance footage has provided some useful information.
