Police are continuing investigations into the murder of a young Belizean man, as family members raise concerns that the killing may have been a targeted attack linked to a pawn shop burglary that occurred last year. While relatives of the victim believe the murder may have been a hit connected to that earlier incident, police have not confirmed any such link. Speaking to the media, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Stacy Smith said investigations remain ongoing and cautioned against speculation as detectives work to establish motive and identify those responsible.
Stacy Smith, Assistant Superintendent of Police: “On Saturday 10th January 2025 at approximately 1pm precinct 1 police responded to reports of shots fired in the Vicinity of Constitution Park which is located on Cemetery Road Belize City. Upon the arrival of the officers they observed a male person in a booth on that compound and the male person exhibited several apparent gunshot wounds to the body. He was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for medical attention however he later succumbed to the injuries that he sustained. The male persons was identified as Kyron Dwayne Armstrong, a 28 year old Belizean of Fabers Road Extension. What the investigation has so far suggested is that Mr. Armstrong was inside the booth and a male person who wore a helmet entered that booth and fired several shots which resulted in his demise. The male person then made his escape onboard a motorcycle. Police have retrieved a number of video footage which shows the activity of those suspected persons prior to and after the incident and are being carefully reviewed.”
ASP Smith explained that police are pursuing all available leads and reviewing evidence, but emphasized that no official conclusion has been reached regarding the motive for the killing. Meanwhile, an unnamed relative of the victim described him as a helpful and generous young man, saying the family is struggling to come to terms with his death while seeking justice.
Relative:“Well my brother, Kyron Samuels, because originally he is Kyron Samuels but y mom registers him as Armstrong so that is how he got the name but my brother was nice. My brother was cool, loved his little nephew and all of his nieces, his brothers, my sisters. My brother was nice but it’s just that if you go on my brother’s wrong side you would see his bad side. Everybody has a bad side you understand ? Everybody, nobody out here is perfect, come on, you understand ?”
Reporter: You said he had how many kids ?
Relative:“He had one daughter that we know of, you understand. One daughter.”
Reporter: And nothing else you want to add about his character ?
Relative “Well my brother if you asked him to do anything he would do it for you. He would go where he has to go for you ? You understand ? That was my brother. Blacka everybody knew Blacka. You just chanced my brother but yeah.”
The relative said the victim was well known for assisting others whenever he could and maintained that the family believes his killing was not random. Police are urging anyone with information that may assist the investigation to come forward, as inquiries continue into the circumstances surrounding the murder
