Police in Hattieville have launched an investigation into the unlawful disinterment of a body following the discovery of a damaged tomb at the Hattieville Cemetery. Reports indicate that around 8:30 yesterday morning, authorities received information that a tomb had been broken into. Acting on the report, Hattieville police visited the cemetery where they observed an unpainted concrete tomb with damage to its back portion. The tomb contained the body of 63-year-old Valeria McKay, a Belizean of Dollar Bank Road, who had been laid to rest the day before. Police say McKay had passed away at her residence on February 20 from natural causes. Investigations revealed that McKay was buried by family members with the assistance of Paulino’s Funeral Home, and her body had been sealed inside a cement structure tomb. However, family members were later alerted that the tomb had been broken open and that there were signs the body had been tampered with. McKay’s body has briefly taken to the Medical College for further examination, and was once again laid to rest. No arrests have been made up to news time today, but Police say they do have on person of interest they are seeking.
