Police say investigations into both incidents are continuing as they work to determine if anyone else was involved. Police have released more details about the murder of 31-year-old Herbert Belloso, who was chased and shot dead in Ladyville on Saturday morning. Authorities say Belloso had previously been detained as a person of interest in another murder investigation, but no charges were brought against him. ASP Stacy Smith says Belloso was near a store along Compassion Lane when a blue Chevrolet Equinox pulled up. Police say three men got out of the vehicle, two of them armed. Belloso tried to escape, but the gunmen chased after him and shot him.
Stacy Smith, ASP, Belize Police Department: “Police are seeking a vehicle of interest that has been identified as a part of the ongoing investigation into the murder of 31 year old Herbert Belleso of Ladyville Village which occurred at approximately 11:15 a.m. on 31st October 2025 in the vicinity of Compassion Lane, Ladyville. What has been learned so far in the course of the ongoing investigation is that Belleso was at a store and a blue in color Chevy Equinox stopped and three male persons, two of whom were armed exited the vehicle and upon observing this Mr. Belleso attempted to flee. He was pursued and fired upon resulting in his fatal injury.”
Smith also revealed that Belloso had previously been detained by police during an investigation into another murder in Ladyville. However, she says investigators did not have enough evidence at the time to charge him. Police have not confirmed whether Belloso’s killing is connected to that earlier murder investigation or the recent increase in gang-related violence. The investigation remains ongoing.
