Police in Belize City are investigating a shooting incident that left a nineteen-year-old man hospitalized yesterday evening. Shortly after seven o’clock, police were alerted by the control room that a male with gunshot injuries had arrived at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Upon arrival, investigators observed Calron Hall, a nineteen-year-old laborer of Jones Street, Belize City, receiving medical treatment for a gunshot wound to the body. Initial information given to police indicated that Hall had been in the Harmonyville area of St. Matthews when someone fired several shots in his direction, causing his injuries. However, subsequent police investigation suggests a different sequence of events. Authorities say that around 6:45 p.m., Hall was at his residence on Jones Street along with several other individuals inside the lower flat of a two-storey wooden structure that once operated as his mother’s salon. During that time, Hall was reportedly handling a firearm when it discharged accidentally, causing him to shoot himself. Following the incident, Hall was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he continues to receive medical treatment.
