Police Seek Public Help After Hit and Run Injures Five in Belize City

Police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in a weekend hit-and-run incident in Belize City that left five people injured. As Love News reported on Monday, the collision happened shortly after eight-twenty Saturday night at the corner of Euphrates Avenue and Cemetery Road, near a popular pupusa food stall. Surveillance footage shows a sedan travelling from Mosul Street onto Cemetery Road before making a wide right turn into Euphrates Avenue, crashing into the stall and persons gathered nearby.  At least two individuals were struck directly while others were injured in the chaos. The cart remained standing, but food items and equipment were scattered across the street as customers fled. The driver then continued along Euphrates Avenue and turned onto King Street without stopping to render assistance.  Police received a report from fifty-four-year-old vendor Stanley Ponce, who told investigators the vehicle, described as a dark red four-door sedan bearing Belize City license plates, knocked down a customer and hit multiple persons before fleeing the scene.  Among those injured was accountant Gerald Morris, who suffered abrasions to his arm and leg and was treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. Twenty-nine-year-old Dilicia Hernandez also complained of abdominal pain, while several other persons sustained varying injuries.  Authorities say they have reviewed surveillance footage and are now asking the public to provide any information that can help identify the car and driver. Crime Stoppers Belize is urging anyone who recognizes the vehicle or has leads related to the incident to call 922, use the P3 Tips app, or report to the nearest police station.
