A woman was arrested after police discovered more than $1.8 million in cash at a house in Maraval during an early-morning operation yesterday.
According to a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS), the exercise was conducted between 4 am and 8 am on Wednesday in the Maraval district. It involved officers from the West End and Maraval Criminal Investigations Department (CID), along with the West End Police Station, Western Division Task Force, Western Division Gang and Intelligence Unit, Inter-Agency Task Force, and the Canine Unit.
During the operation, officers searched the home of a male suspect and found a safe containing TT$1,853,600 and $837 in Barbadian currency. They also seized four police patches and a pair of black tactical pants.
The suspect’s mother, who was present during the search, was arrested. The TTPS said personnel from the Financial Investigations Bureau were contacted, and the cash was seized under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a firearm was recovered following a robbery with aggravation in Barataria yesterday morning.
Police said a female business owner and another woman were at a Barataria business place around 7:20 am when they were confronted by two men, one of whom was armed. The victim ran into the street in fear, while the suspects escaped with two mobile phones.
Officers from the North Eastern Division Task Force responded and recovered both phones and a firearm loaded with a magazine containing two rounds of ammunition a short distance away.
