A police patrol near the Corozal Commercial Free Zone on Friday evening led to the seizure of approximately ninety pounds of suspected cannabis after three men abandoned several large bags and fled the area. According to police, shortly after 4:00 p.m. on June 5, officers attached to the Northern Border Police Formation were conducting patrols along the back fence of the Corozal Commercial Free Zone when they observed three male individuals walking near the perimeter fence carrying large black plastic bags. Police approached the area, prompting the men to flee outside the fence line toward a nearby river. Officers pursued the suspects; however, the individuals managed to evade capture. A subsequent search of the area led to the discovery of four large plastic bags containing multiple parcels of suspected cannabis. The narcotics were transported to the Corozal Police Station, where they were processed and labeled as exhibits. Preliminary investigations indicate that the seized cannabis weighed approximately ninety pounds. No arrests have been made in connection with the seizure, and police investigations are continuing as authorities seek to identify and apprehend those responsible.
