Given the unacceptable increase in road traffic incidents and serious violations, amounting to a whopping 1,846 arrests; 160 of these are for the suspicion of alcohol, ASP Smith says that currently 40 officers are in training to step up public enforcement.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Stacy Smith: “Discussions are being had, and steps are being made to amend the legislation because certainly it would want to appear that the legislation as it stands now does not serve the deterrent’s purpose since many persons continue to violate the law. I believe some of the legislation that we will be seeing would include the increase of penalty, the implementation of new offenses and maybe even criminal sentences because traditionally the traffic area is one that is known to be just fines. But apparently it would want to appear that there is a need to move to a more stringent legislative provisions.”
