Police targets share of Tier I lead

5 hours ago 1

With unbeaten leaders and defending champions Defence Force elite not in action until Saturday, third placed Miscellaneous Police FC will have a chance for a share of the lead at the top of the T&T Premier Football League (TTPFL) Tier I standings when they face Prison Service FC in the feature match of a double-header on Friday.

The clash between the Lawmen and Prison Service will take place at the Phase II Recreation Ground, La Horquetta from 8 pm, with the former seeking to avenge a ‘Boxing Day’ 1-0.

Going into the match, coach Devorn Jorsling’s Defence Force, unbeaten run in 36-matches locally dating back to the start of last season, leads the 12-club standings with 29 points from 11 matches, two more than the Angus Eve-coached Club Sando, who have played a match more, followed by Miscellaneous Police with 26 points from 12 matches, and Prisons Service with 25 points, also from 12 matches.

A win today for first-year head coach Todd Ryan and Police, who go into the match on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw with Terminix La Horquetta Rangers will see them join Defence Force at the top of the standings while Prison Service, coached by former national striker Dexter Cyrus, can move up to second spot, one point adrift of top spot should they pick up maximum points as well.

Two hours earlier at La Horquetta, FC Eagles, who suffered a default loss to Caledonia AIA due to a clash of uniforms, will hope to make it onto the field this time around for their meeting with San Juan Jabloteh, with the latter smarting from a 3-1 loss against Defence Force.

On Saturday, January 17 at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet, Tobago, cellar-placed 1976 FC Phoenix meets Caledonia AIA from 5 pm while Defence Force Elite faces MIC Central FC Reboot two hours later.

And on Sunday, January 18 at Mahaica Sporting Complex, Point Fortin, former champions Athletic Club Port-of-Span and Rangers clash in the opener from 5 pm followed by Point Fortin Civic and Club Sando in a southern derby.
