A female police officer was beaten and struck in the head, face and upper body with a cellphone during an argument with a close male relative yesterday.

The incident, which left the officer bloody and bruised, reportedly unfolded in front of the officer’s one-year-old son and sister.

Officers from the Cunupia Police Station were alerted to a domestic violence incident in progress at an apartment at Ramgoolie Trace North, Cunupia, around 5.11 am.

They arrived to find the officer bleeding from wounds to the head, and learned the woman’s male companion, who is from Beetham Gardens, had allegedly struck her with the cellphone after she asked him to leave her apartment following a quarrel.

The victim told officers the suspect, who later fled, had refused to leave, following which he attacked her.

Police were yesterday searching for the suspect.
