Poll: Morgan Holds Lead in NC Clarendon

The JLP’s Robert Nesta Morgan is on track for a convincing victory in North Central Clarendon in the next General Election.

That’s according to a recent Bluedot poll.

Morgan holds a near 12-point lead over his challenger, the PNP’s Dr. Aujae Dixon.

While the two hometown boys are expected to be the candidates in the battle for the crucial Clarendon seat, Councillor Romaine Morris is emerging as a key figure in the electoral contest.

Mahiri Stewart reports.

The country is likely weeks away from the announcement of the 19th General Elections.

North Central Clarendon will be a key electoral prize on election night.

The country’s Works Minister, Robert Morgan, is set to face off against the medical doctor, Aujae Dixon.

The contest comes against the backdrop of the 2024 Local Government Elections, where the JLP won two of the three divisions in the constituency – Chapelton and Rock River.

But political turncoat Romaine Morris managed to carry the Mocho division with him into the PNP column.

When the Bluedot pollsters visited the constituency in June, they asked 400 registered voters who they would vote for in the General Election: Morgan, Dixon or Morris.

Morgan leads Dixon by 11.7 points. 32.2 per cent to 23.5.

Interestingly, Romaine Morris garners nearly 9-percent support in the poll, with 8.7 of respondents indicating they would vote for the one-time labourite turned comrade.

The poll’s margin of error is five percent.

Whichever of the two main candidates can attract that slice of the electorate to their camp would get a significant boost in their prospects to sit in Gordon House.

When asked how satisfied they were with the performance of Morgan as an MP, nearly 18 percent of respondents said they were very satisfied, while 17 percent indicated they were somewhat satisfied.

Just over 20 percent were neutral in their assessment of Morgan’s performance, while 12 percent said they were somewhat dissatisfied and 33 percent very dissatisfied.

When asked to rate the JLP Government, just over 19 percent felt they were excellent.

Another 24 percent rated the government as good, and 28 percent indicated they were fair.

Nearly 17 percent of respondents rated the JLP government as very poor, and another 11 percent labelled the government’s performance as poor.

The results come days after the PNP descended on Chapelton square for their Clarendon parish rally. Dixon talked up his chances to unseat Morgan.

When the polls close at 5 P.M. on election day, election watchers will be keenly watching the returns from North Central Clarendon.

It may give an early indication of how the Race to 32 will end.

As it stands now, it’s advantage JLP.

Robert Morgan seems set to serve a second term representing what he calls “A Betta Place.”
