There was a distinct Trinidad and Tobago flavour to the Toronto Sixers’ success in the just-concluded second season of the Canada Super60. The Sixers tasted unique double success by winning both the men’s and women’s titles at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada.

Leading the men’s team was Trinidad and Tobago cricket icon Kieron Pollard, whose combined role as player, captain and head coach brought experience, composure and a winning mentality to the squad. The championship also marks Pollard’s first title as a coach, adding another milestone to his distinguished cricket career.

The men’s championship squad included fellow Trinidadians Nicholas Pooran and Abdul-Raheem Toppin, strengthening the Caribbean connection at the heart of the Toronto franchise. Pooran was named Player of the Tournament, capping an outstanding campaign with a match-winning 67 from just 23 balls in the final as the Sixers defeated the Vancouver Anchors by five wickets to secure the title.

Batting first, the Anchors were bowled out for 164 for 3 with Obus Pienaar scoring an unbeaten 82 from 21 balls, while their captain Moeen Ali scored 45 from 18.

In turn, the Sixers were propelled by Pooran’s match-winning innings along with a robust 35 from 13 by Pollard and 25 not out from Daniel Sams who hit a six off the final delivery to lift the Sixers to 168 for 5 for a five-wicket win.

The women’s team delivered equally significant success against the Vancouver Warriors, securing back-to-back Canada Super60 championships. The Warriors posted 84 for 9, to which the Sixers women replied with 85 for 4 to win by six wickets with three balls remaining.

Under head coach Shanuka Dissanayake, captain Maddy Villiers and team manager Habeeba Bader, the squad demonstrated resilience, belief and collective determination to retain its crown. Dissanayake’s preparation and guidance were central to building the confidence and unity that carried the team to another championship.

At the helm of the franchise is CEO Rizwan Mohamed, who was born in Trinidad and has been based in Toronto, Canada, for the past 25 years. With five championship titles under his belt across his franchise leadership career, Mohamed has built a record that places him among the most successful franchise cricket executives in North America.

Mohamed was well supported by Toronto Sixers General Manager Omar Khan, whose experience and dedication were integral to the franchise’s preparations, team operations and championship campaign. Together, the leadership group created an environment in which both squads could perform with confidence and purpose.

For Toronto Sixers, the double championship reflects a shared commitment to excellence across men’s and women’s cricket.
